Over our 2021 harvest season we had the pleasure of meeting and working with the brewing team at Black Gold Brewery in Petrolia.
Black Gold’s head brewer Chris was excited to come check out the Backroads Hops Farm where we gave him a full tour of our hopyard and harvesting operation. Chris picked out our Cascade and Chinook Hops as his favourites and told us he had an epic brew idea for us to collaborate on.
The brew used 50 pounds of our Cascade and Chinook hops in dried, whole-cone form which strays from the normal pelletized hop beers and creates some amazing, unique flavours. The beer was appropriately named “freshly squeezed” and is all about using the freshest possible ingredients to create an epic flavour experience highlighted with orange citrus bursts.
Freshly Squeezed clocks in at 55 IBU and 6% ABV. Head Brewer Chis describes it as “a lovely golden colour with a big juicy aroma of fresh squeezed orange with a velvety smooth body and mouth feel”.
The Black Gold team was amazing to work with and we hope this is the first of many more collaborations down the road.
