So you’ve finally finished tying all the strings and putting them in the ground beside your precious hops plants, but the spring work doesn’t end there. The next task is “training” your hops! If you were to sit back and leave your plants on their own they would eventually find their way up the strings, but giving them a helping hand as soon as possible can make them hit the top of the trellis much faster, which in turn will increase yield.

The training process is very simple and you don’t need to spend very long with each plant. Just simply grab two or three of the best looking hops bines and twist them gently around the sting in a clockwise motion! We recommend using thin gloves for training hops because they provide some protection, but are still sensitive enough to allow you to handle the bines with care!
